Volunteering opportunities for our members

Uppertunity is all about building strengths and resilience in individuals, as well as the community. One of these ways is through meaningful volunteer roles bringing the community together.

Volunteering helps build confidence, develops skills, teaches the ability to work as a team, enables a person to be part of their community, teaches responsibility and gives a person the chance to make a change using their talents.

Uppertunity offers various volunteering roles...

Cooking for Change

We have partnered up with Meal Makers, where our members can volunteer as meal makers for isolated individuals. Volunteers make a meal of their choice with our help and then drop the meal off at the individuals home, also providing a social visit.

This role is offered only to members who have taken part in the Daring for Development program.

Phone Befriending

We have joined up with Dial-Op, a local telephone service to assist isolated adults, where our members who volunteer are an empathetic ear. Volunteers will make weekly phone calls, with our assistance from our premises, to individuals who need to hear a friendly voice and may need a reminder of their appointments for the week.

This role is offered only to members who have taken part in the Daring for Development program.

Garden Volunteering (Shrubbers and Plotters)

We offer a gardening project where members are in charge of managing different gardens. Food grown from the gardens are used in the cooking groups and cooking volunteering, as well as donated to Dundee Food Bank. The gardens also aids visually, uplifting the moods of onlookers and the surrounding community.

Creating for Charity

Volunteers make items for other charities such as shopping bags for Dundee Food Bank, sensory cushions for PAMIS or talking puppets for Knit for Nowt.
